1. Morocco is home to the world’s oldest university.
The Kairaouine Mosque was founded in 859 and is home to the University of al-Kairaouine (al-Qarawiyin), the world first university. It was built by Fatima al-Fihri, the daughter of a wealthy Kairaouine refugee.

2. There's skiing within 90 minutes of Marrakesh.
The Atlas Mountain range spans Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. Mount Toubkal, the highest peak at 13,671 feet, is in central Morocco and popular for hiking year-round. Oukaimeden is Africa’s highest ski resort, just 50 miles from Marrakesh. It is 8,500-10,500 feet high with slopes for all levels.

3. Morocco has the largest film sets outside of Hollywood.
Filmmakers love Morocco. The Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate are called “Morocco’s Hollywood.” Aït Benhaddou is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has been the backdrop in movies like The Mummy and Gladiator.

This is Morocco's largest city (over three million people) and economic center. It's a major port city and a key financial hub in Africa.
