steps to serve
Serving with REI begins with a simple connection – but it’s just the start of an exciting journey. As you move through the application process, you’ll meet team leaders, explore REI’s mission and values and discern whether serving with REI would be right for you. With a dedicated coach by your side and support from our Director of Training and Director of Field Staff Care, you’ll be guided every step of the way. From our first introduction through your pre-field training, each step is designed to bring clarity and equip you for meaningful overseas service.
1
INQUIRE
Connect with a candidate coach to explore options for you based on your skillset and experience. Learn more about REI, our current opportunities and teams and discover your place in the organization.

3
TRAIN
We want to prepare you as best as possible for what lies ahead in-country. You'll attend a five-day New Staff Orientation where you'll learn more about REI's distinctives, receive fundraising support and connect directly with our Director of Training. One-on-one fundraising support will continue through the next few months as you build your partnership team. Then, you'll attend our Pre-Field Training where you will receive training in cultural adaptation, how to thrive overseas and in a team, how to maintain communication with your donor team as well as interacting and connecting with the REI home team.

2
APPLY
When you're ready, you'll complete an application and take the next steps to serving overseas with REI. As a part of the application process, you'll work one-on-one with your candidate coach and complete a series of evaluations and interviews.
